Every Spring the University of Arizona would sponsor a three-day competition.  On the last day there would be an event at the Mission outside of town. The desert in bloom, we would gather at sunrise for breakfast.  Then cards would be drawn and each pair would stroll the countryside discusing terms and location with their
gear carried by the seconds.  Then you would fence a one-touch bout.   There were some things that were considered mildly uncool  to do (like throwing rocks or  snakes) but beyond that pretty much anything went.  The final bout would be fought in the courtyard of the Mission.  Fun.

One trick is to use a new, shiny  new guard and maneuver your opponent  so you could reflect the sun in their eyes.

Carol takes first!
