Shuteye Peak

Shuteye Peak is located just east of Bass Lake and about an hour’s  4WD from home.  Amazingly, we had never been up there.  So we went up the in the afternoon of July 10, 2004 in Robin’s new Chevy 4×4.  ‘Fun drive.  A little rough. Don’t eat too much before you go or you might barf.

A little roadbuilding was in order.

The “summit”  is actually the southern terminus of  Chiquito Ridge which you drive along for several miles after gaining the ridge at Shuteye Pass.

An interesting erosional feature or two rocks mating?

This rock reminded me of a giant, moist, cowpie so naturally I wanted to get a photo of Martha and Robin atop it.

Rob and Robin debate whether or not they could see Mt. Whitney.

Looking north from the lookout back down the way we came up.

From the lookout looking south.
